Job Role : Tooling Engineer

Location: Akron, OH

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Tooling Engineer to support injection molding tooling projects from concept through production. This position will work closely with customers, tooling suppliers, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and engineering teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in injection molding, mold design, tooling engineering, Moldflow/Mold Filling Analysis, and 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage injection mold and tooling projects from design through production.
\n
• Serve as the primary technical liaison with customers and suppliers.
\n
• Review customer products for moldability, steel conditions, cost-saving opportunities, and quality improvements.
\n
• Review and approve injection mold designs according to customer and company specifications.
\n
• Coordinate outside tooling suppliers and ensure timely delivery of quality molds.
\n
• Manage APQP activities, project timelines, budgets, and scope changes.
\n
• Lead project review meetings and communicate project status, risks, and issues.
\n
• Work with manufacturing, quality, scheduling, procurement, and suppliers to meet project objectives.
\n
• Perform and interpret Mold Filling Analysis (MFA/Moldflow).
\n
• Support mold modifications and approve molds for shipment and production release.
\n
• Maintain project documentation and reporting through ERP and APQP systems.
\n

Required Qualifications

\n
• Bachelor's degree in Plastics, Polymer, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent tooling/mold-making experience.
\n
• 6+ years of experience in injection molding, tooling, and engineering.
\n
• Strong knowledge of plastic injection molds, mold building, and injection molding processes.
\n
• Experience with 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks.
\n
• Experience setting up, running, and interpreting Mold Filling Analysis/Moldflow.
\n
• Knowledge of thermoplastic and engineering resins.
\n
• Knowledge of GD&T, drafting, and tolerancing.
\n
• Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
\n
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
\n

Preferred Qualifications

\n
• Project Management certification.
\n
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
\n
• Professional-level SolidWorks experience.
\n
• Mold-making background.
\n
• Scientific molding experience.
\n
• Product design experience.
\n
• Experience with formal project management methodologies and software.
\n
